A Patient Care Technician, also known as PCT, is a healthcare worker who is responsible for looking after patients in a variety of settings. For example, PCTs work in hospitals, clinics, outpatient centers, long-term care facilities, and nursing homes for the elderly. Depending on the work setting, the duties of a patient care technician may slightly differ.
The tasks of a patient care technician are usually supervised by a registered nurse (RN) or a physician, and they include clerical/administrative, clinical, laboratory, and supportive duties. Patient care technicians generally have more direct contact with patients than other healthcare workers, such as physicians or nurses do.
