General duties for the pharmacy technician include:
- receiving written prescriptions and/or refill requests
- verifying that patient information and prescription information is accurate
- filling bottles with requested medications and labeling compounding prescription drugs
- pricing and filing prescriptions
- mixing pharmaceutical preparations according to prescriptions
- maintaining storage conditions for drugs according to manufacturer's specifications
- regularly checking up on outdated expiration dates of medications
- cleaning and maintaining equipment and work areas, and sterilizing glassware
- ordering and labeling medications and supplies
- unpacking orders and checking items against invoices
- answering telephone calls and assisting customers
- establishing and maintaining patient profiles
- receiving and storing supplies
- preparing and processing medical insurance forms
