DESCRIPTION
MEDICAL BILLING AND CODING
DESCRIPTION
This is a 7 weeks lesson that explores the concepts necessary to prepare students to become Medical Billing and Coding professionals. Whether you are just starting out or transitioning into a different field, there has never been a better time to enter the field of Medical Billing and Coding. More than 850,000 practicing physicians in the United States rely on medical billers and coders to receive payment for their services. Aside from medical facilities, positions are available with health insurance companies, pharmacies, medical suppliers, consulting firms, and medical billing companies.
Healthcare workers are in high demand due to the increased medical needs of an aging population and the increased number of Americans qualifying for health insurance. When a professional organization polled physicians in the summer of 2013 to see how they were going to handle the influx of new patients, 60% of the respondents said they were going to hire additional staff.
This offers valuable information in legal, ethical, and regulatory concepts that are central to this field, including HIPAA compliance and third-party guidelines for filing insurance claims. You will learn how to code diagnoses, services, and procedures for all systems of the body. The course is entirely online and is completed at your own pace. When you register, you receive an initial (7) weeks to complete. Should you need more time beyond the seven (8) weeks, an extension of seven (8) weeks is available at no additional cost.
Upon completion course of these lesson modules, you will be able to take the Medical Billing and Coding 1 exam offered by Medical Career Assessments (MedCA).
